Is Your Data Center Looking Like a Crime Scene?

Orange cones and caution tape shouldn’t be the first thing people see when they visit a data center, but it was when I toured a data center just the other day.

The data center was recently built and up and running.  Holes had been cut in the raised floor waiting for future cables to be run and racks to be installed.  In the meantime cones and over turned waste baskets were used to cover up holes in the floor and yellow caution tape was strung around large areas warning people to watch their step.  As a well designed and built data center, it had but one flaw, it did not use Air Guard Extreme floor grommets.

The Air-Guard Extreme comes standard with a sturdy safety cover designed to fit perfectly inside and set flush with the opening of the Extreme.  The finger grips allow for easy access, removal and installation as needed.

The safety cover removes any worry about accidental injury when grommets are installed but left unattended.  With Air-Guard Extreme there’s no need for overturned waste baskets, or caution tape.  With Air-Guard there is only the professional look and performance of the data center you set out to build.

I recently came across a  clip of a data center tour that really reminded me of what NOT to do in a data center.

Follow the link to take a tour of the data center yourself.

You’ll notice the use of fans placed on the floor panels in an attempt to draw more air up through the cold aisle.  Empty boxes stacked everywhere.  With the mess of cables above the floor can you imagine what is under the floor?  I even saw the orange cone.  And let’s not talk about the pop can left sitting on top of the server.

A lot of effort goes into maintaining uptime, without pride in your work and your environment don’t be surprised if you experience significant downtime throughout the year.
