Why Rack Bonding Matters

Electronic equipment requires proper grounding to protect against stray currents, electromagnetic interference, electrostatic discharge, and electrical noise. Data center grounding systems must equalize electrical potentials and create a low-impedance path to ground, directing damaging currents away from sensitive equipment. TIA-607-C requires each rack to bond directly to the grounding grid or common bonding network rather than serially.

The vertical rack bonding busbar runs the length of the rack, serving as a common grounding point for all rack-mounted equipment. Each piece of equipment bonds directly to the busbar with a short flex unit bonding connector, providing a convenient ground path to the telecommunications bonding backbone.
